Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) for Black Women and Teen Girls in Virginia

Online Therapy services across Virginia designed to help you reprocess stuck memories so they don’t keep running the show.

Empowering Black Women through Wholistic Healing and Growth â€‹

At WATWC, we understand the unique challenges faced by Black women and other women of color in their journeys through anxiety, trauma, and depression. Our specialized EMDR sessions and wholistic therapeutic intensives are designed to provide a safe, nurturing space where you can heal and reclaim your power.

What is EMDR?

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. It’s a gentle, research-backed therapy that helps you process stuck memories, emotional pain, and trauma — without having to retell every detail.

Instead of only talking through it, EMDR helps your brain and body work together to release what’s still being held inside. Through guided sets of eye movements, tapping, or sound, we activate both sides of your brain to help shift the emotional charge of a memory.

It’s like helping your system finish what it never got the chance to — so that memory no longer feels like it’s happening right now.

EMDR is especially helpful for:

  • Trauma

  • Anxiety + panic

  • Childhood wounds

  • People-pleasing and perfectionism

  • Feeling stuck or overwhelmed and not knowing why

You don’t have to keep reliving it.

EMDR gives your mind and body the space to heal — at your pace, in your way. I’ll guide you through each step with care, compassion, and support.

What to Expect with EMDR?

This isn’t your typical talk therapy.
If you’re coming to EMDR, you’ve probably already talked about it. Maybe in therapy. Maybe with friends. Maybe only in your head. But now, your body’s still holding it—and you’re ready to shift that for real.

Here’s how it goes:

Step 1: We get clear on what’s been showing up.

Before we even jump into the deep stuff, we slow it down. We talk through what you’ve been carrying—old memories, triggers, current patterns—and figure out what’s still stuck in your nervous system.

Step 2: We build your inner toolkit.

We don’t go into the hard stuff without support. You’ll learn grounding techniques, calming visuals, breathwork, and other personalized tools to help you feel safe and supported in your body—during and outside of session. (And yes, we’ll pause if things feel too intense.)

Step 3: We reprocess, not relive.

Using gentle eye movements or tapping (yes, all of this can take place virtually!), we revisit memories in a way that helps your brain file them away instead of looping them on repeat. You’ll stay in control the whole time. No pressure to share every detail out loud if you don’t want to.

Step 4: We make space for the new story.

Once the charge around the memory lessens, we replace it with something that actually feels true and empowering. You’ll notice yourself responding differently—more calm, more grounded, more like you.

You’re not broken. Your system just needs a reset.

EMDR is about giving your mind and body the space to finally let go of what’s no longer serving you. It’s a game-changer for trauma, anxiety, childhood wounds, people-pleasing, perfectionism, and feeling like you’re always on edge—but don’t know why.

To be honest:

This work isn’t easy, but it’s worth it.
You deserve to move through life without constantly waiting for the next shoe to drop. You deserve a space where you don’t have to perform, explain, or hold it all together.

Let’s help your nervous system feel that too.

Benefits of EMDR for Black Women

In a world where Black women’s voices and experiences are too often overlooked or misunderstood, EMDR offers something different. It’s not just about talking through what happened — it’s about helping your body finally let go of the pain you’ve been carrying.

EMDR works by helping you process the effects of trauma at the root — including racial trauma, generational pain, and the pressure to always be strong. Whether the hurt started in childhood or showed up later in life, this therapy helps you release what’s been stuck, so you can move forward without it weighing you down.

It’s not just about healing — it’s about reclaiming your power, your peace, and your full self.

A Note About Levels of Investment

At WATWC, I believe that healing should be both intentional and spacious. That’s why I offer a range of session lengths to meet you where you are — whether you’re needing a quick recalibration, a deeper reset, or an immersive healing experience.

Investment levels reflect the depth, preparation, training, and care that goes into every session. While some insurance is accepted for standard therapy, my longer-format sessions are offered as private pay to allow for greater flexibility, deeper work, and a pace that honors your nervous system — not a billing code.

Payment plans are available for 3hr intensives. If you're not sure which session is right for you, I offer free consults to help you decide based on your goals and needs.
